The Carnival features two weeks of action, colour, glamour, outrageous fun, and the very best of thoroughbred racing and sales in the incomparable setting of Queensland’s Gold Coast.

POLO & SHOWJUMPING | 8 JANUARY

The 2023 Pacific Fair Magic Millions Polo & Showjumping will be a showcase of equestrian excellence and display of internationally renowned horsemen and women! 

Argentine superstars Nacho Figueras and Delfina Blaquier return to the Gold Coast to set alight the polo field while the showjumping competition run at senior and junior level will feature a $1m prize pool for the first time, making it the most valuable stand-alone competition in the world – right here on the Gold Coast! We are excited to welcome actress and showjumping enthusiast Elsa Pataky, to the Magic Millions ambassador family, who will be in attendance as our Global Ambassador for Showjumping.

The showjumping kicks off at 9.15am with some of Australia’s best junior riders competing in an individual format, following this the senior team’s event will take to the field for a showstopping spectacle as they compete for Magic Millions riches. The day continues to build with excitement as the ever-popular industry match turns heads and finally an action-packed professional polo game to wind up the day. Held on Queensland’s picturesque Gold Coast, spectators will be treated with a day full to the brim of live entertainment, hospitality and Pacific Fair Fashions on the Field Kick off the 2023 The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival in style at the polo & showjumping

BARRIER DRAW | 10 JANUARY

The sun will rise over the 2023 The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival on Tuesday, 10 January when the Barrier Draw takes centre stage on the Surfers Paradise foreshore from 6am.

Watch thoroughbreds gallop down the Surfers Paradise Foreshore with champion jockeys on board! This great Gold Coast spectacle is a much anticipated event that is free to the public. From 8.45am, the connections of every runner in the $2 million The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic field will arrive in style before randomly choosing the barrier from which their horse will start on Raceday, Saturday 14 January. Afterwards the Barrier Draw for the $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas will be drawn.

(I Am Invincible x Eloping)

A sensational winner of the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington during the spring, In Secret is one of the most exciting fillies in the Southern Hemisphere. She’s already won a couple of features and was a close second in the Golden Rose at Rosehill. In Secret was a $900,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy for Godolphin from the draft of Segenhoe Stud.
FARNAN

(Not A Single Doubt x Tallow)

Purchased from the Vinery Stud draft for $550,000 by Phoenix Thoroughbreds and Aquis Farm, Farnan was Australia’s Champion Two-Year-Old of his year. An early season win in the Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic was followed up success in a Group Two Todman, Group Two Silver Slipper before a crowning victory in the Group One Golden Slipper. Farnan now stands at Kia Ora Stud at a service fee of $55,000.
WINX

(Street Cry x Vegas Showgirl)

Little needs to be said about the world champion Winx. She was purchased by Magic Bloodstock for $230,000 on the Gold Coast from the Coolmore Stud draft (as agent for Fairway Thoroughbreds). Winx retired after 33 straight group wins – 25 wins at Group One level and a world record prizemoney haul of over $26.4 million. Her 25 Group Ones included four famous consecutive wins in the WS Cox Plate.
STAY INSIDE

(Extreme Choice x Nothin Leica Storm)

A $200,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase in 2020 for Freedman Brothers and Rick Connolly Bloodstock from the Newgate Farm draft, Stay Inside won three races as a two-year-old headlined by a dashing victory in the Group One Golden Slipper Stakes. Retired to stud, Stay Inside stands at Newgate Farm at a service fee of $77,000.
GOLDEN SIXTY

(Medaglia d’Oro x Gaudeamus)

One of the world’s leading milers, Golden Sixty started life in Queensland – sold by breeder Element Hill for $120,000 at the Gold Coast Yearling Sale. Exported to Hong Kong he’s established himself a true champion. As it stands he’s won 22 of his 26 starts and earned a record HK$122 million. Trained by Francis Lui and with regular rider Vincent Ho, Golden Sixty has been the pin-up horse at Sha Tin for the past three seasons.
HITOTSU

(Maurice x Love is Fickle)

One of the country’s most versatile, lightly raced gallopers, Hitotsu was a $100,000 Gold Coast buy for former trainer Wendy Kelly from the Arrowfield Stud draft. Now on the comeback trail from injury, Hitotsu proved the country’s best three-year-old over a trip by winning the Group One Victoria Derby in the spring before a first up win in the Australian Guineas. He capped an incredible autumn in 2022 with success in the Australian Derby at Randwick. He’s earned over $3 million from just eight starts to date.
MANZOICE

(Almanzor x Choice)

A $340,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase for Chris Waller and Guy Mulcaster from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft, Manzoice is one of the hot new kids on the block. The bright staying prospect gave his rivals a start and a beating in a dominant victory in the Group One Victoria Derby at Flemington in the spring.
ALLIGATOR BLOOD

(All Too Hard x Lake Superior)

A $55,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy for Ezybonds No 1 Syndicate from the draft of Baramul Stud, Alligator Blood has established himself one of the country’s finest gallopers. As a three-year-old he won the Australian Guineas. Since then he’s won three more Group Ones – a Stradbroke Handicap, an Underwood Stakes and at his most recent run a brilliant win in the $3 million Champions Mile. His earnings sit at over $5.5 million.
WELLINGTON

(All Too Hard x Mihiri)

The undisputed Champion Sprinter of Hong Kong, Wellington was a $70,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy for Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm from Kia Ora Stud. A winner of over HK$56 million, Wellington won December’s Longines Hong Kong International Sprint brilliantly. Before that he’d already won the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup and back to back runnings of the Chairman’s Sprint Prize at Group One level.
SNAPDANCER

(Choisir x Snapdragon)

A $180,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy from the draft of Sledmere Stud, the recently retired Snapdancer was an incredible performer for Spicer Thoroughbreds. In January 2022 she won the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap before adding the Group Three Triscay Stakes and then two Group Ones – the Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville and Magic Millions Memsie Stakes at Caulfield. She retires with over $2 million in earnings and is one of the most valuable broodmare prospects in the country.
TAGALOA

(Lord Kanaloa x Vasilissa)

A high quality youngster, Tagaloa confirmed himself a top ticket stud career with a brilliant win in the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield. Tagaloa was purchased by trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young for $300,000 from the Arrowfield Stud draft at the Gold Coast. As a three-year-old Tagaloa returns to win the Group Three CS Hayes Stakes. He now stands at Yulong in Victoria at a fee of $30,250.
MONTEFILIA

(Kermadec x Bana Wu)

One of the country’s most talented and tough middle distance to staying performers, Montefilia was purchased by trainer David Payne for $130,000 from the draft of Tyreel Stud. She’s already won over $2.7 million with her feature vicitories including the Spring Champion Stakes, Metropolitan Handicap, Ranvet Stakes and Flight Stakes – all at Group One level. She is always racing against the top tier gallopers of Australasia and always does it in style.
ELLSBERG

(Spill the Beans x Love of Liberty)

A $280,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy for trainer Gerald Ryan from the Segenhoe Stud draft, Ellsberg is one of the country’s best and most talented sprinter/milers. He’s already won over $3.3 million and his spring carnival included a smashing dead heat win in the Epsom Handicap at Randwick. He won two other million dollar plus races to register a lucrative campaign for his owners.
REDZEL

(Snitzel x Millrich)

A $120,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy for Triple Crown Syndications from the draft of Marquee Stud, Redzel retired in 2020 after a stunning 39 start career with 15 wins and 13 placings and earnings of over $16.4 million. Redzel is best remembered for winning the first two editions of The Everest as well as Group One wins in a Doomben 10,000 and Darley Classic. He won a swag of other feature sprints while in training with Peter and Paul Snowden.
FORBIDDEN LOVE

(All Too Hard x Juliet’s Princess)

A winner of over $2.2 million and an extremely valuable broodmare prospect, Forbidden Love was sold to Richard Freedman for $150,000 from the draft of Bhima Thoroughbreds, for breeder Kerry O’Brien. Already she’s won six stakes events including a George Ryder Stakes, Canterbury Stakes and Surround Stakes at Group One level.
COOLANGATTA

(Written Tycoon x Piping Hot)

One of the country’s most brilliant fillies, Coolangatta shot to prominence as a juvenile when she won the $2 million The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic. Placed in a Slipper on wet ground, she returned as a three-year-old to beat the seasoned sprinters in the Group One AJ Moir Stakes under the lights at Moonee Valley. Bred by John Warren, Coolangatta was purchased by Ciaron Maher Bloodstock for $280,000 from the draft of Milburn Creek.
ARTORIUS

(Flying Artie x Gracie’s Lass)

Globetrotting sprinter Artorius has spent his racing career at the elite level. As a juvenile he won the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes. Recently he’s placed in a Coolmore Stud Stakes, Platinum Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and a July Cup at Newmarket. Artorius was a $120,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy for Anthony Freedman Racing and Blue Sky Bloodstock from the Vinery Stud draft.
JACQUINOT

(Rubick x Ponterro)

A Coolmore Stud graduate at the 2021 Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Jacquinot has developed into an explosive three-year-old on the track. Placed in the Blue Diamond at two, the Mick Price and Michael Kent trained colt went to another level at three by winning the Group Three HDF McNeil Stakes before a Group One triumph over In Secret in the Group One Golden Rose.
MADAME POMMERY

(No Nay Never x Cancel)

A successful Magic Millions Racing Women graduate, Madame Pommery was a $150,000 Gold Coast Yearling buy for Chris Waller and Guy Mulcaster. After a string of excellent runs at two and three, she scored an easy win in the Group One Thousand Guineas at Caulfield. A valuable broodmare prospect for the future, the future is very bright for this three-year-old filly.
KING’S LEGACY

(Redoute’s Choice x Breakfast in Bed)

A high profile yearling, King’s Legacy cost leading bloodstock agent James Harron $1.4 million at the Gold Coast Yearling Sale when offered by Segenhoe Stud. A winner of the Group Three BJ McLachlan Stakes before Christmas, King’s Legacy just got better and better during the season. He rounded out his juvenile season with victory in the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes and Champagne Stakes. King’s Legacy stands at Coolmore Stud where this spring he commanded a fee of $33,000.

THE $11.75 MILLION RACEDAY

The Queensland Summer Racing Carnival continues to grow in status and value with the $22.5m in total carnival prizemoney over 52 feature races and 11 race meetings.

Highlighted by The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday on Saturday 14 January. With $11.75m on offer across a ten race card, The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday is the only racemeeting in Australia to stage eight million-dollar plus races on the one program.

In 2023, two new world-first feature races have been added to the program, the $1m Magic Millions The Syndicate, for horses owned by a minimum of 20 individual registered owners and/or syndicate members, and the $500,000 Magic Millions The Debut, for unraced 2YOs, in what will become the richest 2YO maiden in the world.

RACING WOMEN | 14 JANUARY

The world-first Magic Millions Racing Women’s initiative enters in eleventh year, with $750,000 in Racing Women’s Bonuses on offer to all female-owned thoroughbreds across two time-honoured races, $2m The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic and the $2m Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.

Returning to the Gold Coast to make the presentation to this year’s winners will be Magic Millions Racing Women Patron, Zara Tindall MBE. Since Zara presented the first Magic Millions Racing Women’s Bonus in 2013 to the connections of Real Surreal, an extraordinary 1,690 thoroughbreds have been registered in all-female ownership, trained in every state of Australia and New Zealand.
